Sunday Reflections: 1-31-11

So here we are, the last day of the first month of 2011.  Time for some Sunday reflections.

  1. Get back into walking/jogging/running at least 3 times a week.
        I did not do such a great job of this last week.  And it didn’t really
        even dawn on me until today.  When I was ready to hit the treadmill this
       morning, I logged on to Daily Mile to see that I had not been on the
       treadmill since 1-23. so 8 days ago, yikes!  Needless to say this will be
       a priority this week!

A Saturday with the Mouse

Saturday D and I decided to head to our favorite place: Walt Disney World. Our main reason for going was to eat at California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.  It is my absolute favorite restaurant at the WDW Resort.  We also had our wedding reception there.

Since I knew I’d be having a big, calorie-filled meal, I tried to eat well the rest of the say. Disney is FULL of my favorite (but so bad for you) foods: ice cream sandwiches, egg rolls, Dole Whip floats, cheese-filled pretzels… I could go on and on.

Sunday Reflections: 1-23-11

1.  Get back into walking/jogging/running at least 3 times a week.

CHECK!  I complete Week 2 of the Couch to 5K program on my iPhone.  I am ordering a new Bondi band tonight as my reward (I have a 5 for $25 code, so I might go for that. I really love my Bondi band it keeps this mass of curls out of my way!)

2.  Cross-train other days. 

One day.  I did 12 minutes of WiiFit Step Aerobics before work one morning.  Baby steps.

3.  Yoga daily (eventually). 

From the Test Kitchen: Black Bean Brownies

I’m “doing” Weight Watchers, but not really.  I use the eTools to track Points, because I understand Points.  ANYway, since I use eTools, I have access to the WW Message Boards.  I like browsing around for interesting recipes.  Years ago it’s where I found the Zero Point Vegetable Soup recipe that I love to make.

So a few weeks ago, I was intrigued when I saw folks talking about Black Bean Brownies.  Black beans + brownies = ??  Not sure about that one.  But. I love brownies, so I decided I’d give them a try today.

Wonderful World of Wednesday: Disney Dream

Today was a big day for fellow Disney nerds and cruise fans alike.  It was a day that we have been anxiously awaiting.  Today, Disney’s newest cruise ship, the Disney Dream, was christened at Port Canaveral.

My husband and I have been cruising with Disney Cruise Line for the last few years.  In fact, there would be no “husband” if not for DCL!  On our first cruise (a 3-night on the Disney Wonder), we got engaged at Serenity Bay on Disney’s private island Castaway Cay.


I read about Dream Boards a long time ago, around the time Oprah first talked about them on her show.  You can make a virtual dream board on Oprah’s website here.

I’ve wanted to make one forever, but when I think about it, I don’t have poster board at home.  I then vow to bring home poster board the next day and get started.  Guess what?  That never happens! 

I decided last night to just make a Dream Board using graphics.  I’m going to print it out and post it above the treadmill and any other location(s) I think will be beneficial to my success.

Music Monday: MLK

Today is the day our leaders have set aside to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Dr. King was of course a noted Civil Rights Leader during perhaps one of the most crucial moments in the history of the good ol’ U S of A (aside from right now).

I’m a huge fan of Dr. King’s.  Specifically his notion of non-violent protest.  I suppose that idea was shaped and adapted from that of Mahatma Gandhi.  My husband and I have been on our own little Civil Rights tour of the South over the past few years.  We make a point to visit places important to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s in various locations across the South.  We have visited historic places in Birmingham, AL, Memphis, TN, and Atlanta, GA.  One day I’d love to go to Selma.   

How Am I Doing?

Answer:  Not so good!

Sunday reflections.  I’ve decided that Sunday will be my attempted day of reflection starting today.  Since I don’t really like Sundays, they are the perfect day to look back over the last week.

I think I’ll start with my fitness goals.  Which are:

1.  Get back into walking/jogging/running at least 3 times a week.

I “wogged” 2 times last week.  I knew I had 1 more day to do and never did it.  In fact, I woke up Saturday morning with every intention of doing that final day of the week, but instead watched Eclipse.  I need to remember that if I just put my workout clothes on, I will get on the treadmill.  I also need to remember the feeling of accomplishment at the end of the “wog.” 

Say What??

Yesterday at work we had a representative from our local blood alliance come in to speak to us.  They are coming out with the Bloodmobile in February and wanted people to sign up.  I wasn’t all that interested because me + needles = just not gonna happen unless a doctor ordered it to be done.  I get that I can save 3 lives with my luscious blood, but. I guess I’m greedy.

You can’t have my blood. no, really, you can’t!

Or am I?  As the speaker continued, he listed several reasons you cannot give blood.  Guess what??  I can’t give blood!  I had no idea, either.

Wonderful World of Wednesday: What’s Adorable About Tokyo DisneySea

So I’m trying to stick to blogging at least a few times a week.  Today’s post is in honor of one of my obsessions:  all things Disney!

I’ve never been to Tokyo Disneyland.  But I dream of it, oh yes, I do.  (My slight obsession with Japanese culture started in the late 90s, with Banana Yoshimoto’s NP.  Tokyo Disney Resort is a double whammy, being both Disney and Japanese.  Sorry Tokyo Disney Resort!)  If you’d like to read about another Disney nut’s fan’s journey to the first Asian Disney theme park, check out this review over at Disney Travel Babble.
