While I’ve yet to post about it, I successfully completed the Expedition Everest Challenge two weeks ago.  Yay!!

EE1

It was a such a fun experience (as if anything at Walt Disney World wouldn’t be a fun experience to me!), that I’m doing another Disney race!

One of the things that caused me to catch the running bug several years ago was a race at Walt Disney World called the Tower of Terror 13k.  Sadly, the last race was held in 2009 and I was I no way prepared to participate.

I’ve been getting horrified looks for the past 2 years when people see me drinking one of my favorite quick breakfasts.  This delicious treat would be none other than the Green Monster.  There are many variations on the tasty protein drink.  Today I’m sharing my usual recipe.  I make changes as dictated by my grocery and/or CSA selections for the week.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Vanilla Silk Almond Milk (you can use whatever milk you like, this is my preference)
  • 1 medium banana (many other GM enthusiasts freeze their bananas, but I never have)

4. List 10 things you would tell your 16 year-old self, if you could.

1.  You probably should reconsider going through a drive-thru. again.

2.  Enjoy that opening track on Zooropa. One day, you’ll hear it live-several times-and think it is one of the most amazing events in your life.

3.  Going to college away from home is seriously overrated.  Moving out and away is great, but wasting money on college when you’re not interested isn’t cool.  At all.  Fear not, one day, you’ll be on the path to a PhD.

3. Describe your relationship with your parents.

Excellent.  Except I’m not 100% sure they are my biological parents.  They’re conservative and I’m liberal.  Complete opposites in many ways.  I swear that my biological parents live on a commune somewhere in California, where peace, love and happiness still abound.  But since my hippy parents abandoned me to be raised by a couple of Southern Conservatives, I suppose I’d prefer them even if my long lost hippy parents were to find me one day.

Which one of these women could be my bio mom?

Continuing the May 30 Day Blog Challenge…

2. Describe 3 legitimate fears you have and explain how they became fears.  (Edited because I don’t really have any legitimate fears.)

Birds.  I’m irrationally afraid of birds.  This fear became really bad in my 20s.  I think I’ve always been afraid of them, though.  I know my mom’s best friend had cockatiels when I was in elementary school.  I thought they were cool, but I know I was afraid of them biting me.  A neighbor across the road had macaws.  Again, I thought they were cool, but didn’t want them landing on my head.

Very excited and nervous to be running my first runDisney race this Saturday!  Last week, we received our final instructions for the race.  I printed my waiver and got my bib number.  I was happy to see that my bib number adds up to 13—an awesome number.  Hopefully 13 will bring me good luck.

My goal is to finish the 5k portion of the event without being swept (removed from the course for being too slow).  I’m really hoping this won’t be a problem.  While I did not finish my C25k program, I have been following Jeff Galloway’s 5k training.  I’ve complete 3 long runs in the past 3 weekends.  This past Sunday, Dan and I ran/walked 4.86 miles.  My pace was just over 16:00/mile.  I think this is good news for my race.

In an effort to change my behavior to make blogging a more routine activity for me, I decided to do a 30 Day Blog Challenge for the month of May (which I know has 31 days, I’ll take Memorial Day off).  I stole borrowed my list from the New Rules… Same Game blog.

Day 1:  List 20 random facts about yourself.

1.  I am awful at word games.

2.  I was once a huge baseball fan.  I watched every Atlanta Braves game I could.  I now claim to hate all sports—except soccer.  How can you hate soccer?  It’s unAmeri—oh, nevermind.  But I really do love soccer.

Legit.

I usually feel like a poser in any sort of fitness situation.  I am not an athlete.  Never have been, don’t really strive to be one.  I’m not in shape—never have been, but I do strive to get there.  I don’t love being physically active, I’m not bubbly and overly excited about anything relating to fitness.  But it is growing on me.

Every time I write a post about “running,” I feel like I’m going to be found out.  “Who is the completely out of shape chick talking about how she “ran” 4.25 around freakin’ Disney World?  You call that running??”  Well, do I?  I guess I do.
